$4,000 GRANT MAKES MAJOR IMPACT AT ANDERSON ANIMAL SHELTER

Anderson Animal Shelter in South Elgin, Illinois is proud to announce that the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley recently awarded the organization a $4,000 grant to upgrade a portion of the shelter’s technology.

Anderson Animal Shelter has transitioned from a traditional community animal shelter to one of the most progressive humane societies of its kind. The shelter operates under a low-kill philosophy and has the goal of eliminating the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable animals.

“The Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley has enabled our organization to become more efficient and progressive. We are extremely grateful for their generosity,” said Beth Drake, Executive Director of Anderson Animal Shelter.

Anderson Animal Shelter reaches thousands of individuals and families annually though various programs and services including shelter and off-site adoption events, youth programs, volunteer services and more. Funding from the grant will be used to purchase various computers and technologies that will allow the shelter to better serve their greater community.

“With this funding, we now have the ability during our off-site adoption events to showcase animals that may have not made the trip to the event, by accessing the adoption page on our shelter website using internet-capable tablets,” said Drake. “In addition, we are also able to process adoptions onsite at the adoption events, allowing the individual or family to take their new found friend home immediately! As recently as last year, adopters were required to return to the shelter to complete the adoption process. Because of the Foundations’ generosity, we are able to save more lives.”

The Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley is a non-profit philanthropic organization that administers individual charitable funds from which grants and scholarships are distributed to benefit the citizens of the Greater Aurora Area, the TriCities and Kendall County Illinois. A community foundation is a donor-driven organization that helps donors custom-design funds that reflect their charitable interests. Through the years, grants from these funds have made a significant impact on our local communities.

As a first-generation college student from a low-income family, I was worried about how I was going to pay for books and supplies. This scholarship will allow me to focus more on my studies instead of worrying about how to afford college. I am working to not only create opportunities for myself but to motivate future generations. Thank you so much for helping me along this journey!
