August 19th, 2017 at 9:00 AM

LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve, St. Charles, Illinois

The inaugural BIG HEART 5K Run and Walk is now in the books. It turned out to be a great day with sunshine, 80 degrees and well over 200 pairs of Norwegian Flag socks running or walking through the beautiful LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve. Congratulations to Nathan Wendt and Kennedy Calcagno as the overall male and female winners.

Thank you to everyone that helped us make this happened. Special thank you to: Rita, Trish, Christine, Vivian, Andris, Julie, Scott, Sandy, Bob, Ben and Adam for all the help before, at and after the event!

Thank you Mike Alianello for all the amazing graphic design work! It made it all come together. The awards based on Mike’s design, manufactured by IMS Engineered Products, and assembled by GvXc runners were a big hit.

Thank you Jenna Lee Walsh for the amazing first place prizes! We like to make local BIG HEART ART be a tradition!

Thank you to all our volunteers! We could not have done it without your help.

Thank you to all the runners and spectators (incl. Jon Howat on bag pipes). You made it all worth it, so spread the word so we get an even larger turnout next year!

Thank you to Mayor of Geneva, Kevin Burns, for supporting us and being the announcer!

Thank you to all our donors! We appreciate it very much.

Thank you to all our sponsors and supporters! You showed your BIG HEART!

There’s no question in my mind that the scholarship I received opened up possibilities.

A community foundation is a donor-driven organization that helps donors custom-design funds that reflect their charitable interests. Through the years, grants from these funds have made a significant impact on our local communities.

…you can always start small, even $25 can make a difference. Remember we can’t take our money with us. Even if it’s just your gift of time. Volunteer and get involved.

As a first-generation college student from a low-income family, I was worried about how I was going to pay for books and supplies. This scholarship will allow me to focus more on my studies instead of worrying about how to afford college. I am working to not only create opportunities for myself but to motivate future generations. Thank you so much for helping me along this journey!

We chose the Community Foundation because of its reputation. It’s well known, established and we can trust them to do the job for us.
