Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley Awards Grant to Support Cancer Care Services at Delnor Hospital

Geneva, Ill., May 18, 2012 – Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley, a non-profit philanthropic organization, recently awarded a $25,000 grant to the Delnor Foundation in support of the cancer care services at Delnor Hospital, a member of Cadence Health. Delnor’s cancer care services provide patients with comprehensive cancer care through clinical expertise and diagnostic technologies and treatments.

“We are grateful to be a recipient of this grant, to help Delnor Hospital continue providing top flight care, close to home, for members of our community in need of comprehensive cancer care,” said Catherine Wierz, Chief Development Officer, Delnor Foundation. “Philanthropic partnerships, such as this one with Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley, are essential to our ability to deliver our mission to the community.”

The Delnor Foundation supports Delnor Hospital’s mission to provide excellence in health care and promote lifelong wellness in the communities Delnor Hospital serves. Since its inception more than 25 years ago, the Delnor Foundation has given back to the community through the support of initiatives and programs that impact the lives of local residents every day.

Cadence Health recently received approval to begin building a new cancer center on the Delnor campus. The center will allow patients to receive comprehensive cancer treatment at a single location and will begin serving patients in fall 2013.  Among the services that will be provided in the new facility are advanced radiation therapy, brachytherapy, infusion therapy, genetic and nutritional counseling, support services, survivorship programs, and access to clinical trials.

“We are so pleased to support Delnor’s current project to centralize their cancer care services into one, convenient location,” said Sharon Stredde, President and Chief Executive Officer, Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley. “This important initiative will greatly enhance each patient’s well-being.  We applaud Delnor for its vision and compassion.”

The Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley is a non-profit philanthropic organization that administers individual charitable funds from which grants and scholarships are distributed to benefit the citizens of the Greater Aurora Area, the TriCities and Kendall County Illinois.

YEP has made me realize the importance of being involved in my community, and how to make a difference. There are a lot of problems in the world but if we can do everything that we can to help the world will become a better place. YEP has helped me realize this and encouraged me to help more people in the future.

Being a part of the Community Foundation scholarship committee is the highlight of my year. For many, a scholarship from the CFFRV is the reason they are able to continue reaching for their dreams and changing the future of our world. I hope each recipients knows just how inspirational they are to those of us who are lucky enough to read their stories.

YEP was a great experience to have in high school. I became a more confident person, someone with a lot more perspective. Coming from a small school, YEP allowed me to branch out into my community, meet students from other schools, and learn about their backgrounds. I made some great friends and still keep in touch with them today.

I am incredibly grateful for the generosity of the Zari Foundation Scholarship and the Community Foundation in supporting my education. I am majoring in mechanical engineering with a concentration in aerospace engineering at the Rose-Hulman Institue of Technology. In my spare time, I volunteer on campus, in the community and I’m also the principal violist in the symphony orchestra. I hope to make an impact on the next chapter of space exploration by eventually working at a groundbreaking aerospace company such as SpaceX or NASA.
