When the Factory Whistle Blows : AHS Fall Fundraiser

September 30, 2016 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm

An after-work visit to O’Rory’s Saloon* on Broadway at the turn of the century

Friday, September 30, 2016, 5:30-8pm

Come join the Aurora Historical Society after work to relax, unwind and recall the days when hard-working Aurorans would celebrate the end of the workday by heading for one (or more!) of the 36 saloons in downtown Aurora. Typical 1910 bar fare will be available as well a musical entertainment. Carry A. Nation, notorious barroom smasher, is back in the area and will make a rowdy appearance as well!

The Aurora Historical Society crew will be there, as well as celebrity bartenders like Dan Dolan (his grandfather owned O.B. Dolan’s Saloon on Broadway and Benton)and Jeff Reuland (his grandfather and great-uncle owned Reuland Brothers’ Saloon at 25 N. Broadway). We’ll be joined by assorted citizens and celebrities from 1910 with special appearances by Ellie Carlson of Ellie Presents and the Internationals.

*24 North Broadway in downtown Aurora (the 1885 Danahy Building).

$35 per person, cash bar (AHS members $30) 630-906-0650 or online at www.aurorahistory.net.

There’s no question in my mind that the scholarship I received opened up possibilities.

Thank you very much for supporting my college education for these four years. I will never be able to repay you for the opportunity that this scholarship has given to me.

Julia H.

[Renewing Scholarship Recipient] Graduate of Hinkley-Big Rock High School

As a first-generation college student from a low-income family, I was worried about how I was going to pay for books and supplies. This scholarship will allow me to focus more on my studies instead of worrying about how to afford college. I am working to not only create opportunities for myself but to motivate future generations. Thank you so much for helping me along this journey!
