Fox Valley Concert Band of St. Charles, Grant Recipient from the Community Foundation

February 2017 (St. Charles, IL) –  The Fox Valley Concert Band of St. Charles was approved a grant totaling $13,812 from the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley. In its 34th year of serving the Fox Valley Community, the band is well known for its quality performances and collaboration with Illinois artists and area arts organizations such as the Fox Valley Repertory Theater, the Fox Valley Orchestra, and the Elgin Choral Union. In addition, the band offers support to young musicians through its high school internship program and also ‘shares the stage’ with local middle school bands.

The grant will support the purchase a professional quality marimba. The marimba will be performed weekly during rehearsals held at Geneva High School and at concerts held at the Norris Cultural Arts Center of St. Charles.

Esteemed conductor Dr. Colin Holman states: “This significant investment in our ongoing quest to provide an environment for the highest levels of music making is deeply appreciated. The new marimba will not only be a major improvement to the quality of our instruments but will also demonstrate to both audiences and members of the percussion section our commitment to bring the finest artistry to our rehearsals and concerts.”

[Renewing Scholarship Recipient] Graduate of Hinkley-Big Rock High School

As a first-generation college student from a low-income family, I was worried about how I was going to pay for books and supplies. This scholarship will allow me to focus more on my studies instead of worrying about how to afford college. I am working to not only create opportunities for myself but to motivate future generations. Thank you so much for helping me along this journey!

A community foundation is a donor-driven organization that helps donors custom-design funds that reflect their charitable interests. Through the years, grants from these funds have made a significant impact on our local communities.
