The Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley recently made a generous capital grant award to Northwestern Medicine’s Delnor Hospital to support the needs of some of our most critical patients in the West Region. The Foundation’s grant will enable Delnor Hospital to purchase four Portable Pulse Oximetry/ End-tidal CO2, commonly referred to as ETCO2 Monitors. These monitors track and measure carbon dioxide levels for some of our most at-risk patients to prevent hypoxia, a pathological condition in which a region of the body is deprived of oxygen. If hypoxia occurs, irreversible brain damage can be the result.
Funding from the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley will enable Delnor Hospital to purchase these life-saving tools and will enable teams of clinicians to continuously spot-check patients in acute care settings such as the Emergency Rooms. With the purchase of these tools, Delnor Hospital will be able to ensure that it has readily available and accurate ETCO2 measurements that will give clinicians a far clearer picture of our patients’ respiratory status. This specific tool also allows us to monitor both intubated and non-intubated patients—including those receiving supplemental oxygen. The Portable Pulse Oximetry’s will be primarily used in the Emergency Rooms to assist with life support protocols and will potentially save patients’ lives.
The Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley is a non-profit, tax-exempt, philanthropic organization that administers individual charitable funds from which grants and scholarships are distributed to benefit the citizens of the Greater Aurora Area, the TriCities and Kendall County, Illinois.
