Fox Valley Christian Action Endowment Fund

Established 2020

This fund was created to support the mission of Fox Valley Christian Action, which is “to help the local church serve under-resourced communities around them”.

In 1977, founders Champ Boutwell, Tony Danhelka and Paul Johannaber began Riverwoods Christian Center as a camping ministry to enable youth from disadvantaged areas to experience the hope, power and love of Jesus Christ. During the 1980s, the ministry began also to work with families inside their under-resourced neighborhoods and communities throughout the Fox Valley. Alongside local churches, we began providing these families with advocacy, support, education and discipleship. In an effort to expand this successful and much-needed aspect of the ministry, in 2011 Riverwoods reorganized its ministries under the banner of Fox Valley Christian Action and introduced Riverworks Life Skills Outreach.

Our passion is to see the power of the Gospel transform lives of families living in our local public and subsidized housing communities. We accomplish this through residential summer camp, school-year teen programming, and after school kids clubs with Crossroads Kids Clubs.

…you can always start small, even $25 can make a difference. Remember we can’t take our money with us. Even if it’s just your gift of time. Volunteer and get involved.

We chose the Community Foundation because of its reputation. It’s well known, established and we can trust them to do the job for us.

Dick Schindel

Richard and Susan Schindel Scholarship Funds

As a first-generation college student from a low-income family, I was worried about how I was going to pay for books and supplies. This scholarship will allow me to focus more on my studies instead of worrying about how to afford college. I am working to not only create opportunities for myself but to motivate future generations. Thank you so much for helping me along this journey!

Thank you very much for supporting my college education for these four years. I will never be able to repay you for the opportunity that this scholarship has given to me.

A community foundation is a donor-driven organization that helps donors custom-design funds that reflect their charitable interests. Through the years, grants from these funds have made a significant impact on our local communities.
