Goodwin 50th Anniversary Playground at Lucia Goodwin Elementary School

The Goodwin School 50th Anniversary Committee teams with the Goodwin School Parent Teacher Organization, District 129 and the A+ Foundation to renovate or build the 50th Anniversary playground.

The dream – To upgrade current out of date play structure to a state of the art physical learning environment for all students.

The need for a playground

The current playground was built approximately 25 years ago. Since that time the needs of the students and the community that Goodwin School services have evolved. In addition to the programming that was present when the playground was built, Goodwin currently hosts a special needs program for students in School District 129 who would benefit from an updated playground environment.

In addition, Goodwin School also now has two full time pre-school programs. The current playground could use a refresh as the luster on it has begun to fade. In addition, the committee is hopeful to fundraise enough money to build a playground that is more appropriate and inclusive to the variety of programming that Goodwin School services.

The inspiration

Goodwin School is celebrating 50 years of excellence in the District 129 community. The involvement of various stakeholders from different eras in Goodwin’s rich history makes this a perfect time to collaborate and work together.

The goal

We would like the 50th Anniversary playground to serve as a landmark for celebrating the 50 years of excellence, and a springboard to continue to provide opportunities for the students of Goodwin to be well-rounded, members of the community.

Our target is to raise $32,000 to complement the funds the school district, school, and PTO can allocate. We want to raise this money by the end of May 2019, so we can meet the cycle for budgeting and construction planning. We could dedicate the park in the fall of 2019.

There’s no question in my mind that the scholarship I received opened up possibilities.

Marianne Renner

Past Scholarship Recipient & Current Leadership Coach

As a first-generation college student from a low-income family, I was worried about how I was going to pay for books and supplies. This scholarship will allow me to focus more on my studies instead of worrying about how to afford college. I am working to not only create opportunities for myself but to motivate future generations. Thank you so much for helping me along this journey!

A community foundation is a donor-driven organization that helps donors custom-design funds that reflect their charitable interests. Through the years, grants from these funds have made a significant impact on our local communities.

Sharon Stredde

President Emeritus

Thank you very much for supporting my college education for these four years. I will never be able to repay you for the opportunity that this scholarship has given to me.

…you can always start small, even $25 can make a difference. Remember we can’t take our money with us. Even if it’s just your gift of time. Volunteer and get involved.
