This fund provides scholarships to students who are employed by the Aurora Fire Department or to students whose parents or grandparents are employed by or retired from the Aurora Fire Department.

Scholarships are available to students pursing a career at the college level of study or at a trade or vocational school.

Dan McCue (1955-2005) was a graduate of East Aurora High School.

He was employed by the Aurora Fire Department for twenty-four years, achieving the rank of captain.  He also served as a paramedic for eighteen of those years.

Mr. McCue died after a courageous battle with cancer.

His wife Darlene (1963-2009) passed away in a traffic accident in July 2009.

Mr. and Mrs. McCue were survived by four children – Cristin, Joey, Alyssa and Brian.

This scholarship honors, among many other attributes, a dedicated firefighter, friend, father and husband. His legacy of courage, strength and love for life will continue to inspire future generations of students.

As a first-generation college student from a low-income family, I was worried about how I was going to pay for books and supplies. This scholarship will allow me to focus more on my studies instead of worrying about how to afford college. I am working to not only create opportunities for myself but to motivate future generations. Thank you so much for helping me along this journey!

A community foundation is a donor-driven organization that helps donors custom-design funds that reflect their charitable interests. Through the years, grants from these funds have made a significant impact on our local communities.
