The Daryl Thompson Memorial Scholarship was created through “The Friends of DT Golf Outing and Gathering” over a ten-year period following his passing in 2003.
Daryl Thompson (1938-2003) dedicated his entire career to the Oswego Community as a teacher and administrator for thirty-seven years.
As the principal of Oswego High School for twenty-four years, his personal mission was to ensure that every student who passed through the doors of OHS had a successful high school experience.
This scholarship is awarded to Oswego High School students who also want to make a difference in the lives of others by becoming a teacher.
During his tenure at the high school, Mr. Thompson was honored with the prestigious Illinois State Board of Education “Those Who Excel” award in the area of administration.
He also was a long-time leader in the Illinois Principal’s Association, the Illinois High School Association and the Oswego Foundation for Educational Excellence.
He served on countless committees and spear-headed numerous educational initiatives for Oswego High School and District 308.
Daryl Thompson was Oswego High School’s biggest fan. For thirty-seven years he could be found at his post under the hoops or on the field cheering on his “kids.”
He set a positive example for decades of students, colleagues and community members alike.
He epitomized the servant leader model as he motivated both students and staff members to not only love learning, but to also love life.
“Panther Pride” was his way of life. Daryl Thompson was a beloved teacher and administrator whose legacy will continue through the annual awarding of scholarships in his name.
