The Richard C. & Ollie R. Lowrey Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund provides scholarships to graduates of East Aurora High School.
Richard Columbus Lowrey (1925 – 2011) retired from Caterpillar Tractor Co. after many years in Production Accounting, which gave him more time to devote to his joy of gardening. He was also quite active at Mount Olive Church of God in Christ, where he served as a deacon and eventually became State Superintendent of Sunday School (Sixth Jurisdiction of Illinois). Ollie Ruth Lowrey (1930 – 2022), also a member of Mt. Olive, was a loving homemaker and baking enthusiast. She was also an able cashier at A & P for many years. Though both Richard & Ollie were born and raised in segregated Arkansas, shortly after marriage they moved to Chicago and after several years there eventually settled in Aurora. This provided a welcoming environment to raise their sons, Richard & Alex, who both graduated from Oak Park Elementary School, C. F. Simmons Jr. High School, and East Aurora High School before moving on to college.
This scholarship endowment fund is ultimately a culmination of the hard work, dedication, love, and prayers of Richard & Ollie Lowrey.
