Grantee Spotlight: Chapel on the Green

The Chapel on the Green in Yorkville is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 that offers event space for weddings, receptions, and special occasions. Recently, it was awarded a Community Foundation grant to install a stairlift, making the Chapel handicap accessible for people who would otherwise not be able to attend weddings, funerals, events, and educational programs. "We are so appreciative of what this grant has done for our Chapel. We couldn't have done this without your help and that of your Officers and Directors.

Now, the chairlift is constantly used to transport people with mobility limitations. For those who need it, it brings them great joy and relief to be able to participate. The chairlift has had an immediate and direct benefit from the day it was installed," shared Ron Kelso, Grant Writer for The Chapel on the Green.

We are thrilled to introduce two new staff members to our team. Please join us in welcoming, Amanda and Gabriella. We are so fortunate to have them at the Community Foundation.

Amanda Das is our new Director of Finance. She brings many years of experience in both private and not-for-profit industries and is looking forward to supporting the Community Foundation. "I’ve always enjoyed using my professional skills for organizations with a deeper purpose. Joining the Community Foundation allows me to do just that, and I’m genuinely thankful for the opportunity to help others reach their potential", shared Amanda. Amanda was born and raised in Michigan and is a proud graduate of Western Michigan University. She currently lives in Oswego with her husband and family. They have two children, Alex and Sophia, aged 20 and 15. In her free time, Amanda enjoys running, reading, and the joys of family life.

Gabriella Salgado is our new Office Assistant. She brings experience in bookkeeping and accounting, most recently working for APS Training Academy and the West Aurora School District. "I am excited to join a team that's so passionate about making a positive impact in the community. As a former student and resident of East Aurora, I’m grateful for the opportunity to help individuals and organizations from my community thrive," shared Gabriella. Gaby lives in Oswego. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her fiancé, family, and friends, and she cherishes the small things in life—whether it's a beautiful sunrise, a warm chocolate chip cookie, driving with the windows down, or getting lost in a good book.

YEP has made me realize the importance of being involved in my community, and how to make a difference. There are a lot of problems in the world but if we can do everything that we can to help the world will become a better place. YEP has helped me realize this and encouraged me to help more people in the future.

YEP Member

YEP was a great experience to have in high school. I became a more confident person, someone with a lot more perspective. Coming from a small school, YEP allowed me to branch out into my community, meet students from other schools, and learn about their backgrounds. I made some great friends and still keep in touch with them today.

Education is important to us. We support causes that touch our lives and align with our values. We believe in paying it forward. We are here for a short time,, and it is the next generation that will take on what we leave behind.

Being a part of the Community Foundation scholarship committee is the highlight of my year. For many, a scholarship from the CFFRV is the reason they are able to continue reaching for their dreams and changing the future of our world. I hope each recipients knows just how inspirational they are to those of us who are lucky enough to read their stories.

Grant funds from the Community Foundation helped provide updated technology. These upgrades were transformative. By creating new time saving processes, it turned us into a more efficient organization.

I am incredibly grateful for the generosity of the Zari Foundation Scholarship and the Community Foundation in supporting my education. I am majoring in mechanical engineering with a concentration in aerospace engineering at the Rose-Hulman Institue of Technology. In my spare time, I volunteer on campus, in the community and I’m also the principal violist in the symphony orchestra. I hope to make an impact on the next chapter of space exploration by eventually working at a groundbreaking aerospace company such as SpaceX or NASA.
