Community Foundation Awards Friends of Kane County Child Advocacy Center $6,700 Grant

May 2017– The Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley approved a $6700 grant to the Friends of Kane County Child Advocacy Center to support improvements to the multidisciplinary center which includes medical facilities, counseling services, transitional services and advocate services to the children and families victimized by sexual abuse in Kane County.  The funds from this generous grant were used to purchase much needed furniture for the rooms where therapists provide counseling for children who have been the victims of sexual abuse and assault.  Additionally, facility improvements were made including new carpet for the waiting room, and the replacement of the signage on the front of the Annex building to ensure visibility to the public.

Since 1994, Friends of the Kane County Child Advocacy Center has helped hundreds of children recover from the trauma of sexual and physical abuse.  Our focus is on providing support to abused children and their families which cannot be met by the Kane County Child Advocacy Center and the legal system.

Once justice is served through the legal system, the child’s journey to healing begins.  Rebuilding lives requires support that starts at the initial report and continues well beyond the court’s verdict.  Sadly, most families cannot afford the intensive services that will give them the best chance of recovery.  That is where the Friends of Kane County Child Advocacy Center comes in.  We help families rebuild their lives through our programs which include: specialized counseling programs; support groups for victims and families; Adopt-a Family programs that assist families with food, clothing and shelter; purchasing of specialized medical equipment to reduce the invasiveness of investigative procedures; as well as a number of other supportive services.

The Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley is a non-profit, tax-exempt, philanthropic organization that administers individual charitable funds from which grants and scholarships are distributed to benefit the citizens of the Greater Aurora area, the Tri Cities and Kendall County, Illinois.

Founded in 1948, the Foundation provides a simple and powerful approach to charitable giving.  Individuals, families, businesses and organizations have the opportunity to custom design their own named funds that reflect their charitable goals and interests.  Since its inception, the Community Foundation has grown to more than $80 million in assets and has awarded more than $63 million in grants and scholarships.

A community foundation is a donor-driven organization that helps donors custom-design funds that reflect their charitable interests. Through the years, grants from these funds have made a significant impact on our local communities.

President Emeritus

As a first-generation college student from a low-income family, I was worried about how I was going to pay for books and supplies. This scholarship will allow me to focus more on my studies instead of worrying about how to afford college. I am working to not only create opportunities for myself but to motivate future generations. Thank you so much for helping me along this journey!
